Lessons of Life_01

The experience is from my MBA days. There were loads of assignments in those two years and we always struggled with the punishing timelines. The decision to join the course rested solely with me and I felt that much needed determination, which I rarely had felt before in my education career. Probably in my exuberance to excel, I always pushed myself / my team to complete all assignments well before time; in fact a tad too early, now that I reflect. I earned the reputation of an early-finisher; however, it was not long enough since I understood I / my Team was consistently underachieving with respect to grades. First year went by, and I was left pondering as to why I couldn't reach the levels of perfection as I aspired for. I decided to observe... and then the breakthrough came while watching a colleague ( Suyog Markandey ) during internship. I always had this knack of rushing through the job, being a hands on sort of person, I believed in completing fast (best efforts ...

The Early Steps - Journey of Education (Part I)

Image
My School , Durgapur was the first step into the education journey of my life. It was a school just off my locality where all my senior cousins had gone and I followed suit. There was one Prafulla Sir I remember, who would point out the tree I was dangling to whoever came to pick me up when school was over. Barring that, I hardly remember, anything of studies... Probably was boring enough! I moved to Salt Lake Nursery School, Calcutta for my Kindergarten section. I remember my father went alongside me and got me admitted. There was hardly a racket then for admission as it is now. We were three / four students in the section and probably got the fullest attention from teachers. I recall, one particular incident, when a teacher rebuked me for not carrying a handkerchief as I sweated enough. I presume it to be a learning which was far better & lasting  than anything which I could gather from the books! Though it was a sweet but small stint in the school, before soon enough de...

Happy Rakhi - Letter from a Privileged Brother

Image
To My Dearest Didis & Sisters, First & foremost a very "Happy Rakhi" to you. My sincere regards, love & wishes to all elder sisters and my sincere love, wishes & also regards to my younger sisters! I, for one, never believed that age was a criteria for respecting someone... and hence my regards to all younger ones too for the way they have carried themselves in their lives. We all have a lot to learn, I guess, from everyone. As time takes a toll, our interactions have been limited; obvious responsibilities and sensibilities of life has encircled us and that is the way it should be! I take this opportunity to recall a few things about all that I treasure and appreciate in you all. Bordi: I have seen how a person can change for the good. I have seen, how one can brave our society's norms and come up good. I have seen, inspite of challenges & irreparable loss in one's life, how can one retain the capacity of being & doing go...

Meghadūta

This morning, I woke up to a torrential downpour. Rains lashing, the occasional bright lightening and the rumble of a thunder setting up the scene. However, it was the clouds , travelling swiftly with the winds which captured my emotions. It looked so beautiful yet there seemed to be a determination in the way they moved; as if they carried a certain message and had to travel far to convey the same. I could appreciate that probably  such beautiful cloudy day that had prompted Kālidāsa to weave his " Meghadūta "epic. A poem of 111 stanzas, it is one of Kālidāsa's most famous works. The work is divided into two parts, Purvamegh and Uttaramegh. It recounts how a yaksa, a subject of King Kuber (the god of wealth), after being exiled or a year to Central India for neglecting his duties, convinces a passing cloud to take a message to his wife at Alakā on Mount Kailāsa in the mighty Himalayas. The yaksa a...

Time is short!

One of the age old excuse for delaying or not acting on some task has been, "that there's no time". The most polite way of reacting to this saying is that it is a myth. Man has been destined for great things and the sole criteria for achieving something worthy, has been the burning desire inside the person to get the job done. Everything follows thereafter. The planning, resource management, execution, overcoming of hurdles, etc. If you analyze the life of people who made big in this world, in any sphere of life, you will appreciate the passion with which they accomplished their jobs. So before we start procrastinating some job or the other, think time doesn't wait for none... and the biggest barrier to achieving greatness is one's own self! So go and get the job done.

God Bless Zee Cafe!

Image
I have been watching news every morning to keep myself abreast of the latest happenings in the world. To my dismay I found that the realities of the world, especially the news about various wrongdoings of man, which every news channels covers extensively rather set a pretty gloomy image looking forward to the day. I stopped watching news in the mornings, and stuck to glancing over the good news in the newspapers. However, in between surfing of channels, I found one show to suit my taste to perfection. Just For Laugh Gags, in Zee Cafe! JustForLaughsTV This show reveals the light hearted nature of humans. It also shows how the average human being is gullible yet good natured and can share a laugh at one's own expense. Kudos to the producers & other team members of this production who have taken the initiative to make people laugh in this seemingly saddening world. Do watch it guys and have a laugh!

Relationship - What Are You in?

Image
Nowadays, “in a relationship” is a cool word. People, especially teenagers find it extremely attracted to this word. It means probably you are “cool” or “good-looking” enough to have a boy-friend / girlfriend. Well, nothing wrong in my opinion, but that then after the initial excitement, when it’s time to explore the “depths” of the relationship (Ref:: “ Grown Ups ”), it abruptly changes to “single” or “complicated” again! Well, I thought of "relationship" in an entirely different way, as I experienced today. A true and mutual relationship happens only if there is one non-negotiable element,  “Whenever one feels good / special / comfortable with the other person” , then that bond happens. That I feel, is the underlying aspect for all relationships; be it between kids and parents, friends, couples or for that matter in business as well! Also in businesses, though you deal with products (or in this new “customer is the king” world; services), eventually it is either a ‘he...

Beginning

Welcome to   The Meandering Life ! Beginnings, as they say, are always exciting. However, I probably will not be reflecting anything exciting, but about mundane yet realistic experiences of life; which I have either experienced or seen people experiencing in life. It starts here…
